Self storage tips

Some helpful storage tips to help you make the most of your unit at Treforest Self Storage.

Packing

  • Organise your storage unit so you can easily access your most frequently needed items.
  • Consider labelling your boxes to make it easier to locate your items when needed.
  • Worn boxes can collapse and lead to damage use similar size boxes so they pack easily and make better use of your unit space. Try to fill boxes to maintain sturdiness and stack lighter boxes on top.
  • Pack heavier items like books and dishes in smaller boxes and lighter items in larger boxes.
  • If you have extra space, leave a walkway to the rear of your unit for better accessibility.
  • Sealing boxes with tape provides better protection of contents.
  • Wardrobe boxes allow you to store your clothing on hangers. Shoes can be stored in the bottom of wardrobe boxes too.

Furniture

  • Disassemble items such as tables, bed frames and wardrobes to maximise space.
  • Furniture with drawers can be used as storage places for small household items, pictures, etc.

Large Appliances

  • When storing appliances, be sure they are defrosted and empty of water. Refrigerator and freezer doors should be propped slightly open to prevent odour build up. An opened box of baking soda can be placed inside for added odour protection.

Hazardous Items

  • Never store hazardous goods or flammable items (e.g. paint, chemicals, etc.) in your storage unit.
